IRSPA
would like to increase member participation in the
Annual Meeting on October 1-2, 2008, in Ottumwa by
reducing the cost of attending this event. The
registration fee has been waived. IRSPA will pay all
registration fees which usually cover rolls and
coffee on the Thursday morning of October 2 and all
the administrative costs to host an Annual Meeting.
The cost of Wednesday night, October 1 banquet will
be $14.95 per person. The luncheon on Thursday,
October 2 will cost only $8.95 person. Since IRSPA
is paying mileage of $.50 per mile and the meals at
the Annual Meeting will only cost $23.90, there is
really no excuse why you cannot attend the Annual
Meeting because it is too expensive. "The PRICE IS
RIGHT." Of course, if you come to Ottumwa on
Wednesday and plan to stay overnight, you are
responsible for your own motel room.
As
the new President of IRSPA, I want to welcome
you to our website and encourage you to contact
one of the officers listed on the Executive
Board page of this website for additional
information about our organization. We have 53
units in 99 Iowa counties and have 5,600+
retired school personnel members. The state of
Iowa is divided into six districts each with a
coordinator or co-coordinators.
Our
local and state officers are all volunteers who
are actively involved in our organization. IRSPA
is becoming a well known organization throughout
the state and we welcome members who have
retired from any school district, community
college, university or college in Iowa, into our
organization. We are open to retired school
administrators, teachers, support staff
personnel including secretaries, cafeteria
workers, custodians, bus drivers, teacher aids,
etc., anyone who has retired from an educational
institution.
As the newly elected president of IRSPA, I am
the first president to be a retired support
staff person. As a former administrative
secretary for 30 years, I am encouraging all 53
units to have at least 25% of their membership
be support staff personnel by 2009. I will also
encourage each unit to pursue a unit volunteer
project if at all possible. If we all work
together in the common direction of volunteering
either as a unit or personally by becoming a
unit or state officer, IRSPA will continue to be
a great organization. "SHARING A COMMON
DIRECTION LEADS TO SUCCESS." IRSPA now has a
state pin that is available to members for a
$3.00 donation. PROMOTE IRSPA, WEAT A PIN!
Every May, each of the six districts host a
district meeting in their area. An Annual State
Meeting is also held each October, this year in
Ottumwa. To increase participation in these
meetings, the state IRSPA office will pay the
mileage at $.50 per mile for two cars to attend
district meetings and the Annual State Meeting. MIleage will be paid for the car in which the
unit president or his/her designee is riding. If
the first car is filled, then a second car will
have mileage paid to attend these meetings.
In order to increase our membership, each new
member recruited between April 1 and October 1,
2008, will have their first year's state
membership of $12 paid by the state if the new
member joins the local unit. This new membership
policy will be in effect also for new members
recruited between April 1 and October 1, 2009.
Delta Dental Insurance is also offered to IRSPA
members at a reduced rate.
